Am J Psychiatry 2006; 163:1226-1232. The authors found that, by age 30, those who had suicidal ideation at age 15 were nearly twice as likely to have an Axis I disorder, nearly 12 times as likely to have attempted suicide after age 15, and 15 times more likely to have expressed suicidal ideation in the past 4 years. The authors did not control for treatment, making it difficult to determine the impact treatment may have on these trajectories.
