    • By taking into account the number of millimoles of organic moieties per gram of SiO2 and the value of the specific surface of the nanoparticle scaffolding, the average coverage (βA in groups per nm2) of the surface by the corresponding organic moiety in the different nanoparticles prepared were calculated by using Equation (9, βA, αA· 10 -3·S-1·10 -18·NA= αA· S-1 602.3 (9, where αA is the organic moiety content (mmol g-1 SiO2, S is the specific surface (230 m2 g-1) of the nanoparticles and N A is Avogadro's number
