While this manuscript was being prepared, the synthesis and characterization of receptor 2 and a few of its derivatives have been reported by Sessler et al. (Sessler, J. L.; Pantos, G. D.; Katayev, E.; Lynch, V. M. Org. Lett. 2003, 5, 4141). However, the fluoride ion sensing ability of 2 or of its derivatives was not presented in that paper.
