The authors demonstrate that anti-IL-5 induces a sustained decrease in eosinophil levels, believed to be because of a long-lived mepolizumab-IL-5 complex. Additionally, they demonstrate that IL-5 levels are elevated posttreatment with mepolizumab. This indicates that IL-5 may have its own autoregulatory pathway, providing a novel insight into the regulation of IL-5.
