    • Milner JD, Stein DM, McCarter R, Moon RY: Early infant multivitamin supplementation is associated with increased risk for food allergy and asthma. Pediatrics 2004, 114:27-32. This important paper demonstrates that vitamin supplementation in infants is associated with an increased risk for asthma and food allergies among specific populations. While there is data suggesting that certain vitamins may play a role in immunomodulation (e.g. vitamins, A, D, E), the specific components contributing to the increased risk need to be identified, particularly since other components may be protective. While several issues need to be clarified, this study highlights the potential risks associated with presumably benign treatments and offers another point for initiating preventive strategies.
