It is interesting to note that the sterically demanding diene 15 was successfully cyolised in excellent yield using catalyst 4, whilst catalysts 2 and 3 were unreactive in this regard. This is consistent with the fact that catalysts with extended tethers, i.e. 4, are known to effect RCM of sterically demanding substrates.12
