    • Due to the SXS cell geometry the Au ion concentration near the electrode surface and consequently the diffusion-limited current increase rather gradually during the exchange. In contrast, the deposition current is very high directly after a potential step from the equilibrium potential in Au-containing electrolyte, resulting in 3D growth (see Section 3.2).
