    • Computational studies did not address transfer of NHC from the 4-carboxyiate, because all experimental attempts to obtain the 4-NHC complexes in this way failed. Transfer from the 4-carboxylate should be less favored because of the higher C-C bond energy associated with the more nucleophilic 4-NHC.
