17. General procedure for the preparation of zanamivir alkoxyalkyl esters: zanamivir (10.5 mmol) suspended in 70 ml dimethylsulfoxide was added triethylamine (29.8 mmol). After the mixture was stirred for 30 min, alkoxyalkyl bromide (16.4 mmol) was added and the reaction mixture was stirred at 80 °C for 12 h. Then concentrated in vacuum, and the residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel column elut with 17% methanol-83% ethyl acetate to give the corresponding zanamivir alkoxyalkyl esters (1a-c) in good yields (65-80%).
