    • Suitable crystals of [Co3(CO)9CCH3] for the X-ray analysis were grown as dark purple plates from a saturated hexane solution of a mixture of [Co3(CO)9CCH3] and [Co3(CO)9CCOOCH3] at 4°C The structure was determined using diffraction data collected at 150 K using graphite monochromated Mo Ka radiation on a Nonius KappaCCD diffractometer. Crystal data follow: triclinic, space group P1̄, a, 7.7450(10) Å b, 8.7295(11) Å, c =12.1758(15) Å, α, 86.927(8)°, β, 82.201(6)°, γ, 67.662(7)°, V, 754.39(16) Å3, Z, 2, μ(Mo Kα, 3.30 mm-1, 25541 reflections collected with θ < 36.3°, 7061 unique, Rint, 0.027; R, 0.040, wR 2, 0.113, refined on F2.
