The van der Waals surface of Cr (C6 H6) 2 can be approximated, using the experimental structure described by Miller [J. Am. Chem. Soc. JACSAT 0002-7863 10.1021/ja00202a028 111, 7853 (1989)] and the known van der Waals radii of H, C, and Co, by a cylinder of 0.72 nm in diameter and 0.66 nm in length. This can be compared with the van der Waals cylinder of Co Cp2 which has dimensions of 0.65 and 0.69 nm (diameter and length, respectively).
