    • Recent investigations [11b] on similar electroactive thiols demonstrate that the number of 4,4′-bipyridinium dications per molecule controls their solubility in the deposition solvent and, as a result, their ability to form multilayers. Thus, the different adsorption behavior of the tetracationic ligand 24+ and nonacationic complex Cu·(2) 29+ after prolonged immersion times is, presumably, a consequence of the difference in the number of 4,4′-bipyridinium dications per compound
