    • This tip change was fortuitous. The imaging mode for the upper portion of the image is more amenable for observing the adsorption of T5 onto the bare copper regions, while the lower portion is optimized for studying the adsorption of T5 on CuO. In the lower half of the image a multilayer seems to have formed on the Cu(11O) stripes but this is clearly not the case, as seen in the upper part (indicated by the arrows to the left of the image). Here, the majority of the molecules were found to align along the close-packed direction as observed on the pristine surface.
