    • Eur. Pat. Appl. 0198680 The patent mentions that the strategy is useful for producing 5-8 membered rings. However, specific examples are only given for bicyclic guanidinates with 5 and 6-membered rings. Such a procedure was used in our laboratory to synthesize smaller bicyclic guanidines containing 5-5 and 6-5-membered rings. See ref. 14 It should be noted that in our hands such reaction produced Hhpp analogues with five membered rings. See ref. 14

    • The purity of the compounds was also shown to be good by elemental analysis for Htbu and by a melting point for Htbd that was in agreement with previously reported values for samples that had been shown to be pure by elemental analysis (ref. 20) Care must be taken not to overexpose the solution to air because dichloro compounds are hygroscopic and decompose upon prolonged exposure

    • The high symmetry induces considerable ligand disorder. Similar to hpp compounds, the disorder over two positions of the tbd ligands reflects the fact that the five-membered ring and the seven-membered ring on each ligand are related by a (001) mirror plane bisecting the Mo-Mo bond. Details of this type of disorder have been reported in ref. 26
