    • A transient cell cycle shift in Drosophila imaginal disc cells precedes multipotency
    • In contrast to what was previously thought, cells undergoing transdetermination are not subjected to rejuvenation but rather acquire unique properties like a specific cell cycle profile and an increased cell size. These qualities seem to be recurrent in adult stem cell in general and might condition the cells for multipotency.

    • Regulation of cellular plasticity in Drosophila imaginal disc cells by the Polycomb group, trithorax group and lama genes
    • Expression profile analysis of transdetermined cells reveals that anti-differentiation genes as well as potential stem cell genes are activated, whereas some members of the trx and PcG groups become mis-regulated. This study suggests that plasticity might be acquired following modification of the chromatin structure as well as prevention of differentiation.

    • Suppression of Polycomb group proteins by JNK signalling induces transdetermination in Drosophila imaginal discs
    • During transdetermination, the JNK pathway is transiently activated in cells at the wound site of the fragmented imaginal disc. This activation results in a downregulation of some PcG proteins, leading to formation of a reprogrammable chromatin structure. Consequently, a new transcription pattern can be established for the regeneration of the missing tissue. As a side effect, the Wingless pathway becomes activated in some cells of the weak point, leading to a switch in disc identity.
