He has now been able to combine it with a saturation of fluorophores, which provides resolution in the 50 nm range.

    • Théry M, Racine V, Pépin A, Piel M, Chen Y, Sibarita J-B, Bornens M: The extracellular matrix guides the orientation of the cell division axis. Nat Cell Biol 2005, in press. The micro-contact printing technique is employed to investigate the influence of both cell shape and adhesion signalling on the orientation of the cell division axis. The main result of this work is that the spatial organization of micro-patterned fibronectin adhesive points is the main factor determining the orientation of the mitotic spindle. This assay provides interesting insights on how cell-cell and cell-ECM interactions could influence the spindle orientation in vivo.
