Lemmon In vivo dynamics of clathrin and its adaptor-dependent recruitment to the actin-based endocytic machinery in yeast Dev Cell 9 2005 87 98 With live cell imaging, the authors show that clathrin, the major component of clathrin-coated pits and vesicles, localizes to cortical actin patches immediately preceding the Arp2/3 activator, Abp1p. This result is consistent with the hypothesis that Arp2/3-mediated actin polymerization plays a role in formation and scission of endocytic vesicles, and is also the first clear demonstration that the well known mammalian endocytic component, clathrin, is also involved in endocytosis in yeast.

    • R. Wedlich-Soldner, S.C. Wai, T. Schmidt, and R. Li Robust cell polarity is a dynamic state established by coupling transport and GTPase signaling J Cell Biol 166 2004 889 900 With fluorescence recovery after photobleaching experiments, the authors show that the polarized state is highly dynamic. Rapid recycling of the Rho-GTPase Cdc42 at the polar cap is dependent on its GTPase cycle and a cytosolic pool of Cdc42. The establishment of a dynamic polarized state can be achieved by two coupled positive feedback loops, one dependent on actin, and the other on the adaptor protein Bem1. Each loop alone gives rise to different polarization characteristics.

Lew Interplay between septin organization, cell cycle and cell shape in yeast J Cell Sci 118 2005 1617 1628 The authors find that a properly formed septin ring is necessary for a round bud morphology.
