Formation of such oligomers is favored at low concentration if the effective molarity is favorable; see: Ercolani, G. J. Phys. Chem. B 1998, 102, 5699. Further studies in the low concentration range of 3 and related bis(merocyanine) dyes are in progress and will be reported elsewhere.
