    • Cobalt(II) porphyrins can undergo aerial oxidation to give cobalt(III) complexes, which have higher affinities for ligands and slower exchange kinetics. The NMR and EPR data suggest that cobalt(II) species dominate in this system, but it is not possible to rule out the presence of oxidation products, and the samples do show signs of ageing.
