On a few occasions the tilted phase peaks disappeared without the peaks of the untilted phase showing up. This may result from the formation of a disordered, or highly defective, phase. However, it may also result from a formation of an ordered phase consisting of a few large single-crystalline domains, rather than a two-dimensional powder comprising many small domains. In this case it is possible that peaks are not observed because none of the few existing domains happens to be oriented correctly for Bragg-diffracting the incident radiation into the detector.
