For nanostructures coupling mechanisms to acoustic phonons different from standard deformation potential and piezoelectric coupling (which also may be modified due to emergence of confined and interface phonons) might also become relevant. An example is the "ripple" coupling, which arises from perturbation of the confined carrier wave function due to motion of the nanostructure interface [P. A. Knipp and T. L. Reinecke, Phys. Rev.
