-
Sung M, Erkanli A, Angold A, et al. Effects of age at first substance use and psychiatric comorbidity on the development of substance use disorders. Drug Alcohol Depend 2004; 75:287-299. This study examines the effects of age at first substance use and history of psychiatric disorders on the development of substance use disorders. The findings indicate that early use is a major predictor of later substance use disorder, even in the absence of associated psychiatric disorder.
