After postdoctoral studies at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, USA, he worked in the Research Service of the Veterans Hospital associated with the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, USA. In 1978, he moved to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Research Triangle Park, NC, USA, one of the National Institutes of Health. He received the Southern Chemist Award from the American Chemical Society in 1994, and was awarded the Silver Medal of the International EPR Society for his work in biology/medicine in 1996. His research interest is free radical metabolism.
