An ACRL-SPARC Forum was recently held at the ALA Annual 2004 on June 26, 2004. The forum focused on the development of open access publishing and its implications for the humanities, given its different funding sources and communication style. Close to 200 attendees joined the expert panel which presented their own innovations in scholarly communication and their views on what particular form and promise open access may hold for the humanities.

Note
-
Informal interviews with a few academic librarians at a large Southeastern University revealed that the high demand for high impact journals prevents them for canceling subscriptions to these serials despite the availability of less costly alternatives - the result is that subscriptions to less well-known journals are being cancelled to offset the rising cost of high impact journal subscriptions.
