    • anion(0) should be smaller than the volume concentration. If the l is much shorter than the thickness of the double layer, the local concentration should be much lower than the volume concentration.

    • We note that, for the measurements performed here, we applied a laser pulse superimposed on a continuous laser irradiation during the measurements. The dye used here has low absorption coefficients against the wavelength of the CW laser so that the nearly constant electron generation in the electrodes is expected. Therefore, the condition of the double layer can also be expected to be uniform in the electrodes. In previous papers (refs 16 and 17), we measured current transients induced by a UV laser pulse without the assist of bias light. For these cases, electrons were generated at outermost layer of the electrodes and diffused in the electrodes, which have no double layer yet. Thus, the transport of electron should be accompanied with that of counter charges, and thus the ambipolar diffusion can be applied with the concentration of cations in the solution.
