19. 0 is the excitation angular frequency, and the integral runs over the volumes occupied by the metal particles. This approximation is justified because we are working far from the plasmon resonances of individual particles. Preliminary calculations (riot given in this paper), performed under resonance condition, and including such energy losses, lead to sharper dark contrast on top of the metal pads.
