    • It was assumed that the binding functionality of a subchain in the gel under investigation, that is, the average number of carboxylic group per subchain, could be approximately estimated as n = N[AAc]/[NIPA], where [AAc] = 100 mM and [NIPA] = 6000 mM are concentrations of acrylic acid and N-isppropylacrylamide in the feed solution at the gel synthesis; N = [NIPA]/[BIS] is the average subchain polymerization degree, and [BIS] = 40 mM is the feed concentration of N,N-methylenebis(acrylamide).
