    • Contactin orchestrates assembly of the septate-like junctions at the paranode in myelinated peripheral nerve
    • This study demonstrates a functional association of contactin and Caspr/paranodin in vivo. In contactin mutant mice, Caspr/paranodin is absent from axons and paranodes and is retained in neuronal cell bodies, highlighting the importance of their interaction for proper targeting in vivo. The ultrastructural and functional phenotype of contactin mutant mice in central and peripheral neuronal fibers is similar to that of NCP1 knockout mice

    • Neurofascin is a glial receptor for the paranodin/Caspr-contactin axonal complex at the axoglial junction
    • Using cell biological and biochemical methods, this study shows that NF155 associates with the Caspr/paranodin and contactin complex. Furthermore, addition of a soluble form of NF155 protein to co-cultures of neurons and oligodendrocytes inhibited myelination, which suggests that NF155 may have some function in the process of myelination
