    • In this contribution, the authors describe a novel chemical means to provide columnar defects with Bi-2212 grains. The method relies on entrapment of MgO nanorods by Bi-2212 grains as they solidify from the peritectic melt. Due to low lattice mismatch in certain orientations, the nanorods self align within the Bi-2212 grains during solidification
