33. Initially, we applied a more sophisticated rinsing protocol: First, the NHS groups were deactivated by immersing the samples into a sodium phosphate buffer at pH 8.6. Then, the samples were rinsed with a mixture of PBS and Tween-20, a commercially available detergent. Subsequently, they were rinsed with pure PBS and then with Millipore water and finally blown dry with nitrogen. However, it turned out that the simpler protocol as described in the main text led to the same results.
