Four of five patients who had died with PSP had a marked nigrostriatal DA deficiency although DA levels were normal in the nucleus accumbens, hypothalamus and temporal cortex. Levels of other neurotransmitters appeared to be normal.

The concentration of CRH-IH was decreased in the caudate/putamen of patients with HD put appeared normal in other areas examined. This group also had increased somatostatin-like immunoreactivity in the caudate/putamen.
