Effects of side chain length and degree of counterion binding on micellization of sodium salts of alpha-myristic acid alkyl esters in water: A thermodynamic study
-
••This work treats the thermodynamic effects accompanying a structural chain in the side chain close to the headgroup, i.e. the ester alcohol chain length, in a very detailed and precise manner. CMC and counter ion binding strength are found to decrease as the chain length increases. The somewhat astonishing Gibbs energy (for micellisation) absolute value increase with decreasing chain length is explained in a very elegant way as an effect of counter ion binding strength counteracting the hydrophobicity

Skin compatibility and ecotoxicity of ethoxylated fatty methyl ester nonionics
-
•A thorough study of skin irritation, biodegradation and fish toxicity with comparison with conventional surfactants like alcohol ethoxylates and APG:s is described. Both in vivo and in vitro tests are used and possible mechanisms are discussed in an attempt to link in vitro tests to the results seen in vivo. Important aspects like structure effects on biodegradation and fish toxicity are shown
