A particular case of spontaneous resolution involves achiral compounds having chiral conformations, which maybe 'frozen' in the solid state or in solution at low temperature. Thus, enantiomeric crystals of an N-methylbenzamide, which correspond to a stable anti conformer, could be distinguished morphologically as in Pasteur's experiments.
