    • Suspensions of brown-to-black "silver protein" consist of a concentrate of colloidal silver stabilized by protein and are used as an antiseptic as described in The Merck Index,11lth ed., Merck & Co., Inc., Rahway, NJ, 1989. Also, bioburden testing has been performed in our microbiology lab of 0.50 mL of 1.0% w/v solids suspensions of amino-dextran-coated polystyrene beads which showed, immediately after prepara-tion of the coated beads, bacterial growth of tan convex shiny gram-negative rods identified as Pseudomonas pickettii at 78 CFU/mL within 6 days from preparation of test samples on TSA (tryptic soy agar) plates. Suspensions of silver or gold nanoparticle-aminodextran-polystyrene beads showed no bacterial growth under the same test conditions for beads that had been stored at room temperature for up to sixteen weeks.
