44. 41 The scarce water provided by impurity sources may yield a limited number of M-O-M bridged species, giving rise to metaloxo oligomers or clusters. Some extra condensation (therefore an extra source of water) is required to cement the building blocks together, to generate the continuous walls of the mesoporous solids. Atmospheric moisture can diffuse into the alcoholic systems. The water content in the block copolymers (typically up to ca. 1-3% weight) stays, in principle, attached to the polymers.
