    • Myocardial infarction and apoptosis after myocardial ischemia and reperfusion: Role of the terminal complement components and inhibition by anti-C5 therapy
    • This very useful study highlights the role of the terminal complement components in the generation of ischaemia/reperfusion injury. An impressive 60% reduction in myocardial infarct size was noted in rats treated with an anti-C5 antibody

    • This excellent article describes the first use of a trangenic mouse over-expressing a complement regulatory protein in a disease model. These mice were protected from nephrotoxic serum nephritis. In addition, these mice demonstrated no long-term phenotypic abnormalities, indicating that continued complement inhibition is feasible and effective
