A study of several polymorphisms in the apo(a) gene promoter in both Caucasian and Indian populations. The results indicate no direct association of any particular variant with Lp(a) level. Haplotype analysis provided evidence for groups of apo(a) alleles, each with a restricted range of sizes and associated with different Lp(a) concentrations. Linkage studies give some insight into how the apo(a) protein has expanded to produce the various isoforms.
