    • Surface relaxations in polymers
    • The relaxation of orientation in the surface region of polystyrene was studied using NEXAFS (near edge x-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy) following the imposition of chain orientation by rubbing. No evidence was found in this study of enhanced surface mobility

    • Crystallisation of PET from the amorphous state: Observation of different rates for surface and bulk using XPS and FTIR
    • High resolution XPS was used to show that the surface region of poly(ethylene terephthalate) crystallises at a higher rate than the surface at temperatures a little above the glass transition temperature, presumably reflecting either enhanced mobility near the surface, surface induced chain orientation or both
