Applications of mass isotopomer analysis to nutrition research
-
Brunengraber H, Kelleher JK, Des Rosiers C. Applications of mass isotopomer analysis to nutrition research. Annu Rev Nutr 1997; 17:559-596. This is a comprehensive review showing how MIDA can be used: (1) to amplify low isotopic enrichments by polymerization of a labelled analyte; (2) to obtain new information on the regulation of intermediary metabolism from the analysis of isotopomer patterns of synthesized compounds; and (3) to calculate rates of synthesis of biological polymers. The review emphasizes the conditions of validity of these techniques.
