BMJ 1996, 313:586-590. In this relatively large study of approximately 900 Danish women stratified by age in pre-, peri-, and postmenopausal groups, no correlation was found between VDR genotype and bone density (spine, proximal femur, and forearm) in any age groups. No correlation with bone loss calculated by BMD measurements was found over an 18-year period.

J Bone Miner Res 1997, 12:1049-1057. Cross-sectional data from the Framingham study cohort demonstrates that the VDR genotype affects the interaction of dietary calcium with bone density. Association between calcium intake and bone density was found only in the bb genotype. Differences in BMD were observed at high (800 mg/d) intakes, a result at variance with other studies.
