    • A genome-wide association study of clinical symptoms of dissociation in a trauma-exposed sample
    • This study found 10 single nucleotide polymorphisms that were nominally associated with dissociative symptoms. The two most strongly related variants were in genes implicated in synaptic integration, learning, memory, and long term potentiation. Results suggest that basic deficits in sensory/cognitive processing and integration may contribute to dissociation.

    • The influence of the dissociative subtype of posttraumatic stress disorder on treatment efficacy in female veterans and active duty service members
    • This study examined associations between the dissociative subtype and treatment response in an RCT of prolonged exposure and present-centered therapy for PTSD. A small effect was found whereby those with the dissociative subtype showed a lesser decrease in PTSD severity. However, dissociative symptoms decreased markedly among those with the subtype, across both treatments.

    • Does dissociation moderate treatment outcomes of narrative exposure therapy for PTSD? A secondary analysis from a randomized controlled clinical trial
    • This secondary analysis of an RCT comparing narrative exposure therapy (NET) and treatment as usual (TaU) for PTSD examined the influence of dissociative symptoms on treatment response. Findings indicated that NET led to better treatment outcomes than TaU, and that dissociative symptoms did not moderate outcome for either treatment.
