Am Heart J. 2015;170:1105–15. This meta-analysis examined the relationship between anxiety and adverse cardiac outcomes in over 30,000 individuals with established coronary artery disease. In unadjusted analyses, anxiety was associated with a moderately increased risk of adverse cardiac events; however, these relationships were attenuated in adjusted analyses. The relationship between anxiety and outcomes appeared to be stronger when anxiety was measured during a period of clinical stability, compared to after an acute coronary syndrome.
