They tried to change the way Malays thought about their “way of life so that they could take advantage of the opportunities being created for them. The then Deputy Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak, even called upon Malays to take up the challenge of modernity. Such interventions included making shares avail-able to Malays at preferential rates and obliging companies to train Malays for managerial positions
