Decreasing incidence of symptomatic Epstein-Barr virus disease and posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder in pediatric liver transplant recipients: report of the studies of pediatric liver transplantation experience. Liver Transpl 2013;19:730-740. This SPLIT database analysis revealed that with frequent monitoring of EBV PCR and immunosuppression reduction, the incidence of symptomatic EBV and PTLD decreased in pediatric liver transplantation recipients. Younger recipients and those with multiple rejections remained at higher risk.

-
Kosola S, Lampela H, et al. Metabolic syndrome after pediatric liver transplantation. Liver Transpl 2014; doi: 10.1002/lt.23931. [Epub ahead of print] This national cross-sectional study of all children who underwent liver transplantation between 1987 and 2007 revealed that after a median postliver transplantation follow-up time of 12 years, half of all patients had no components of the metabolic syndrome. The prevalence of overweight and obesity was 20%, hypertension was 24%, high triglycerides9%, low HDL in 23%, impaired fasting glucose in 14%, and metabolic syndrome in 9%.
