When the[Ir(Me4phen)2(CF3SO3)2] ? complex was dissolved in 10%[D6]DMSO/90% D2O, an 1H NMR study of the H2 proton of the phen ligand at room temperature showed that the complex (d 9.077) was aquated to[Ir(Me4phen)2(OH2) 2]3? (d 9.111) via [Ir(Me4phen)2(CF3SO3)(OH2)]2? (d 9.009, 9.184), such that the complex comprised .50% of the diaqua species after 30 minutes. Other resonances showed changes consistent with this interpretation
