    • While most of the earlier studies involved tin complexes, these have nowadays become controversial regarding the possible toxicity of potential tin residues, especially in polymeric materials aimed at food or body applications. Therefore, more bio-friendly metal catalysts such as zinc, calcium, group 3 metals or bismuth derivatives have recently attracted many efforts since, besides avoiding the significant drawbacks inherent to the use of tin(ii) octoate, these well-defined catalysts exhibit a better control and an improved mechanistic understanding of the polymerization, and often avoid decarboxylation of the carbonate segments

    • Diblock P(LLA-b-TMC) copolymers, prepared upon polymerizing l-LA prior to TMC have, to our knowledge, only been reported once, by Spassky and coworkers (see ref. 8a). Also, in this former work, the opposite order of monomer addition only afforded a mixture of both homopolymers in place of the desired copolymer
