While to some analysts the resilience of authoritarianism in Azerbaijan and in the post-Soviet space in general may appear unsurprising or even pre-determined, the wave of the color revolutions that swept away governments, if not regimes, in Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan in the early 2000s point to considerable variation in the extent of authoritarian stability among post-Soviet states.
