    • The fluorescence maxima of 3a and 3b in the crystalline state are 404 and 573 nm, respectively, which are much shorter than those in cyclohexane. These differences imply that the large structural changes in the excited state are prevented in the crystalline state, resulting in the blue shifts of the emission maxima.
