    • Wimmer, Cederman, and Min, "Ethnic Politics and Armed Conflict: A Configurational Analysis of a New Global Data Set." One exception is the relatively low oil production in the region - only Angola is a major oil exporter. It is also worth noting that there are no "mega-states" with populations greater than 100 million, such as India, China, Nigeria, or Russia/FSU, almost all of which have faced ethnic civil wars. In two sample t-tests, the Southern African region is statistically different from the all-country sample only in terms of ethnolinguistic fractionalization (higher) and per capita income (lower).
