3 (20 mol %) and 2-propanol (4 equiv) in toluene, the corresponding alcohols were obtained in 92% (1 h) and 92% (19 h) yields, respectively. Under the Nguyen conditions, 4-formylacetophenone and methyl 4-formylbenzoate gave alcohols in 83% (45 min) and 94% (1.5 h) yields, respectively.
